Inexpensive Ways to Travel

Traveling is fun and exciting, especially when you’re visiting a foreign country. But even if you’re traveling to another part of the United States, it’s always a thrill to see another part of the world and how other people live. But traveling can get expensive. Especially these days with the cost of gas, airfare and hotel rooms increasing almost daily. But there are ways to travel on the cheap and still enjoy yourself.

There are different sources for budget traveling. The king of all budget travel is Rick Steves. He has a multitude of books available for almost any destination you would ever consider going. He also has a website that offers all types of inexpensive tours and rail passes. Sometimes a tour can be a money-saving way to travel since the hotel is giving the tour group rates. You also have the advantage of being guided by someone who knows the area you’re visiting.

If you want to get away, try looking at some place closer to home. The gas bill will be cheaper, and you’ll be able to spend more time at your destination rather than on the road or in airports. Many hotels offer discounts. If you have some flexibility in your schedule, this can help save money by booking when the discounts are offered. Deciding to take a weekend off at the last minute can pay off by catching just-posted hotel discounts.

Instead of staying in a hotel, another option is to rent a vacation home. This can be a great choice if you’re on an extended stay of a week or more, and if you’re traveling with a family or group of friends. You can save money by cooking at the rental and packing picnic lunches. It’s also fun to stay in a rental and get the feel of how the locals live. This is especially true when traveling to a foreign country.

Best Times To Go On Vacation

The best times to go on vacation, on a budget, are not the major holidays or when a place is hosting a special event. Unless you are actually going to attend an event or meeting up with friends and family during the holidays, it is much cheaper for you to go when fewer people are going. With a low volume of tourists, you are more likely to find a better deal on everything and since they do not expect that many visitors, local businesses will compensate your trip.

During the off peak season things are usually much cheaper. These businesses do not want to close down and become seasonal and they will do whatever they can to get your attention. Flights to and from your destination are cheaper and so are the hotels. You can save almost half the cost compared to the peak seasons. You can also negotiate with the hotels for a better room for your price and chances are you will get it without having to pay anything additional.

This is the time of the year when the areas are less crowded and you will benefit from this. You will get a better price on the merchandise and for your overall trip around the destination itself, you can expect to pay less. Locals are friendlier when they see less tourists since this gives them some time to themselves, and you will have the opportunity to spend more time with the locals and find out things that you otherwise would not. The best way to experience a vacation destination is to see it from the local’s point of view. That is when you will get an authentic feel as long as you go with an open mind and open heart. Local people are your guide to having the best experience possible.

Vacationing In Your Own Back Yard

Ok so many of you would not consider it a vacation unless you have had the chance to get away from home and enjoy the luxury of being taken care of. Due to economic and financial strains, many of us can not afford to get away. It is difficult for us to carry our vacation time forward and with many companies, you stand to loose your vacation days if you are not able to take them before a specified time period. For those people, you can still take your vacation time and with a little creativeness, you can have a great vacation time right in your back yard, literally! Here are a few things you can do to have an exciting and eventful vacation in your back yard.

* Plan a day of barbeque and movies with your family. You can set a theme and have a great day and you don’t have to do it alone. Get everyone in your family involved and even invite outsiders to join you in your fun filled day.
* If you have always wanted to take that Caribbean vacation, then set a theme for the day. Set up a tiki bar in your back yard and if you have a pool, open it up. If not find a temporary pool and you too can be sitting next to your pool sipping on your cocktails. Tell your extended family to join you. In a gathering like this, the more people you have the merrier it is.
* Many of you enjoy a very relaxing vacation without any kind of outside interference. For you, the best place is you back yard. Get a book and just spend the day lounging around. You will feel like you are away from everything else in your life, for that specific moment.

Students Traveling on a Student Budget

Students typically have the time to travel, but not necessarily the money. If you’re in high school or college and looking for some ways to travel on a budget, it is possible. Many student travel organizations and websites make it possible to travel domestically and internationally on almost any budget.

”’Planning and Organizing”’

The first way to find student travel on a shoestring budget is to plan and organize your search. Advance planning for a trip provides you with better deals than if you try to plan a trip at the last minute. Also except the unexpected, raise your budget slightly in order to account for mishaps, this will help you avoid having to use emergency cash loans. More money when you get back is better than having to pay back another loan. Beyond planning a head, the Internet is your best friend in finding student travel steals and deals.

”’Package Deals”’

If you’re heading to a foreign city or anywhere outside of your home town, you’re going to need transportation to get you there, a place to stay, change and shower and maybe a form of transportation during your stay. When you book all of the services you need as a bundle, you tend to pay less overall than booking items individually. Always ask if the provider offers students discounts. Even on package deals, companies tend to relate to a student’s low budget by providing deeper discounts.

”’Pick Off-seasons”’

When traveling, choose seasonal times that are not as popular. Off-season trips can already mean a huge savings before you even ask about student discounts. For example, in Coasts Rica, the rainy season or what they refer to as the green season runs from July to August. Booking plane and hotel reservations during these summer months can save you your own green. Rain doesn’t necessarily put a damper on a trip to a country filled with rain forests, parks and nature made for enjoyment almost any time of the year. Costa Rica is but one example, so make sure you do some research no matter where you’re traveling to and figure out when the cheaper times to go are.
